: My youngest son was 2 1/2 years before he started really talking. He said very few words until then. He did a lot of pointing and grunting. We tried to encourage him to say the words that he wanted like "drink" or "eat" anything but grunting. We would just always tell him the word for whatever when we gave him things. We tried to read to him a lot also. He does have a speech problem and is 6 now and still goes to speech at his school. I wouldn't be too concerned but would keep a close eye on it.

That's exactly what my daughter does, she grunts! And I do what you did, I tell her the name of what she wants as I am giving it to her. As she gets older I can see trying to get her to say it before I give it to her, but right now that only causes screaming. I think I am going to make a doctor's appointment. Hopefully it's like every other time I've made a doctor's appointment, she get 'better' the day (or the hour before we have to be there) LOL
Thanks for your help, I let you know.

Wendy
