This is just a suggestion, because I've never make a lamp or anything, but how about if you got one of those Christmas decoration candles that you plug in, the plastic kind. You could take it apart and have the wiring and right sized socket for the tree bulbs. Hope this works. Oh, also, our dollar stores have those plastic plug in candls for a dollar, so do the craft stores and WalMart. Good Luck!
