Is there a younger sibling still in diapers at your house or someone you are very close too? My daughter started having accidents when her dad and his new wife had another child. Try not to get too discouraged when it happens. Does he get so intent in what he is doing that he doesn't want to stop playing? Sometimes kids decide it is more fun to keep playing then go to the potty. He may be lying because it also takes time away from play time when you have to stop to get cleaned up. The wonderful mind of a child works in mysterious ways. Good luck
