Theraputic Baths

Epsom Salt Bath
To relax tired muscles and joints, dissolve 1 cup Epsom salts in a tub of warm water.

Sea Salt Bath
Combine 1 tablespoon of your favorite shower gel and 1 tablespoon natural coarse sea salt. Rub over your entire body, but not your face! Then wash it off in a warm bath or shower. Or you can add the mixture to a warm bath.

Essential Oils Bath
Add a few drops (no more than 10) of your favorite essential oil(s) to warm water. Choose the oils to match your mood. For example, use lavender and/or melissa if you want to relax before bed. Use peppermint or juniper to revive and energize. Look at our complete index of essential oils to choose more. **Note: Some oils can be irritating, and should not be used by some people. Read the instructions first, and always do a patch test before using a new oil.

Old Fashioned Milk Bath
Make your own luxurious milk bath by adding a cup of powdered milk and a few drops of lavender essential oil to your bath.

Apple Cider Vinegar or Wine Vinegar Bath
Add a cup of either vinegar to your bath to soothe dry, irritated skin. Apple cider vinegar is especially good for soothing sunburn!J

Oatmeal or Bran Bath
Tie a cupful of oatmeal or bran into a square piece of muslin. Fasten it to your hot water tap with a rubber band, and let the hot water flow through it as you fill your tub. After the tub is filled, tie up the ends of the bag and use the bag to scrub with. It will make your skin nice and smooth!

Special Occasion Bath
Here is my favorite bath to take before a special occasion. Combine a few drops of your perfume with one or two tablespoons of bath oil, or unscented baby oil, and add this to a warm bath. For a more special effect, light candles and play soft music.

Herbal Baths

These are wonderful baths to make for yourself if you like to use dried flowers and herbs.
** Note: Don't take a relaxing bath in the morning or if you want to go out afterwards, and you won't want to take a reviving bath before bedtime.

Reviving Herbal Bath Oil
Combine 4 tablespoons almond oil with 2 drops each of thyme oil, clove oil, bergamot oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and 1 tablespoon vodka. Put into a tightly sealed jar and shake well everyday for 1 week. Add one teaspoon to a warm bath. Enjoy!

Relaxing Bath
Into a cheesecloth/muslin bag, combine one teaspoon each of dried chamomile, linden flowers, lavender flowers, elder flowers, and angelica. Tie the bag over the hot water faucet and let hot water flow through. When done filling tub, throw in bag and let it steep until the water cools enough for you to get in. Add some rose geranium petals to the water, and maybe a fresh cut rose. This is a great bath for unwinding after a long, stressful day!

Refreshing Citrus Bath
Combine 1 teaspoon each of dried comfrey, dried alfalfa, dried parsley, fresh lemon peel and fresh orange peel into a muslin bag, or a square of muslin. Tie the bag onto the hot water tap and let the water flow through. After the tub is filled, throw the bag into the water and let it steep until the water has cooled.

Stimulating Herbal Vinegar Bath
Bring one cup of apple cider vinegar to a boil. Pour this over 1/2 teaspoon each of dried mint, lavender and rosemary. Let this steep for one hour, strain and add this mixture to bath water.

Reviving Herbal Bath
Place 1 teaspoon each of dried basil, eucalyptus and peppermint in a square of muslin. Tie bag to hot water tap and let the water run through. When the tub is filled, throw the bag into the bath and let it steep until the water is cool.

Bath Salts

The following recipes are for making your own bath salts. Some of them are large, so it would be a good idea to have a large jar or decorative bottle to keep them in. Or you can put them in several smaller bottles and give them away as gifts! To add essential oils to them, please go to the Blend Index and pick out one to use.

Cold/Flu Bath
This is one of our personal favorites, because it never fails to make us feel better. You can also use this bath during allergy season if you suffer from hay fever. Combine 5 drops eucalyptus, 5 drops peppermint, 4 drops lavender. Add 7 drops of thyme if your chest is congested. This blend can be added to a warm bath, and soak for 15 minutes. Or, it can be used in a diffusior or humidifier. (It also helps me if my nose is congested to have a cotton pad next to my pillow with a couple drops of eucalyptus).
