AMERICAN FLAG CAKE

package cake mix
Any flavor cake mix prepared as directed and baked in
15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
3 (8 oz.) cartons heavy
whipping cream
1/3 c. powdered sugar
blueberries (50)
2 pt. strawberries, halved
3 thinly sliced bananas,
tossed in lemon juice
At high speed mix whipping cream until peaks. Add sugar
until stiff. Spread cream over top and sides of cake (removed
from pan and placed on serving board). Mark 7 1/2 x 5-inch top
corner of cake. Place berries in even rows for stars. Alter-
nate rows of strawberries and bananas for stripes, overlapping
fruit. Chill until serving, up to 2 hours. Great for 4th of
July.

THREE-COLOR SUGAR COOKIES
(Refrigerator Cookies)

1/2 c. butter or other soft
shortening
1 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. double-acting
baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
Measure sifted dry ingredients. Stir dry ingredients into
creamed mixture. Divide dough into 3 chunks. Color 1 chunk
red, another chunk blue (for 4th of July) or green (for Christ-
mas). Mix food coloring thoroughly into dough. Stick all 3
chunks together and make 1 big ball. Roll the ball between
your hands until it makes a long sausage, 7 1/2-inches long and
2-inches around. Wrap the roll of dough in waxed paper, foil
or plastic wrap; refrigerate overnight. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Slice dough about 1/4-inch thick. Place on greased cookie
sheet. Bake for 8 minutes.

STAR SPANGLED BANNER CAKE

2 boxes white or yellow cake
mix
strawberry or raspberry jam
fresh strawberries or
raspberries
prepared white icing
1 pt. blueberries
Prepare two 9 x 12-inch layers white or yellow cake.
Spread strawberry or raspberry jam on one layer, then stack the
second layer on top. Frost with white icing and make stripes,
using halved strawberries or whole raspberries. Leave room for
field of blueberries. Make field of blueberries and use mini
marshmallows or whipped cream for the stars. Great for Memori-
al day picnics or Fourth of July celebration.

(Fourth of July Variation Jell-O)

2 (3 oz.) pkg. black cherry
Jell-O
1 1/2 c. blueberries
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 (3 oz.) pkg. strawberry
Jell-O
2 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen
strawberries
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. sweetened pineapple (20
oz. can)
1 pt. sour cream
Dissolve black cherry Jell-O in boiling water. Add
crushed pineapple and blueberries. Spread in 9 x 13-inch dish.
Chill until set. Add layer of sour cream. Dissolve strawberry
Jell-O in 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Add pineapple and straw-
berries. Spoon onto sour cream. Chill 2 hours or overnight.
