My 14 year old still sucks her thumb when sleeping and occasionally if she is sick. I used to worry about it effecting her 'bite' etc. We've been to the dentist, orthodontist and even the pediatrician for a solution. The answer: keep her focused on her thumb and she'll keep sucking it. Leave her alone and the habit will go away when she is ready to give it up.
So now we leave her alone. Her teeth are not perfect, she'll always have somewhat of an overbite. Oh well. If thats all I have to worry about being wrong with her then I'll be quite happy.
