Let him go for it, Nick. You'll be surprised how many boys have them these days.
invernesscorp.com and other manufacturers supply piercing kits for parents to pierce their children's ears with and for adults to pierce themselves with. However, going to a reputable place on the mall and being pierced by a professional can all be part of the memorable fun for a boy or girl.
In the end it's your call as a parent. But try to think what meaningful objection you might have. Also, is your ten year old ever likely in the years ahead to experiment with an unsterilized needle? Many parents think it's an act of kindness to save their son from the possibly dangerous effects of needle experimentation by taking him to the mall and having it done supervised and in a hygenic way.
You must decide. But why not let him go for it?
