A plant is considered to be poisonous (TOXIC) if it causes chemical injury to a person who either touches or swallows it, or in very rare cases, breathes its scent.

If a poisoning occurs, act quickly! If the person is having trouble breathing, experiencing seizures, or will not wake up, CALL 911 (or your local emergency number) IMMEDIATELY! If the person is not experiencing those particular symptoms, call your local poison control center or family clinic immediately - BEFORE attempting to treat the poisoning yourself. If you are advised to seek medical attention for poisoning from a plant, try to bring in a piece of the plant, along with any other information you may have on the plant (name, any fertilizers or leaf cleaners used on the plant, etc.)

The following plants contain a wide variety of poisons. Symptoms may include a wide variety of symptoms including, but not limited to: mild stomach ache, skin rash, swelling of the mouth and throat; or they may be NO visible symptoms. It is safest to call your local poison control center or family clinic ANYTIME a plant is ingested.

If you suspect that an animal has been poisoned by eating a plant, call your vet immediately! If it is after clicnic hours, there should be a recording with a number for emergency vet services. You could also call your local poison control center; they should have information pertaining to pets. Make this call BEFORE you attempt to treat the animal for poisoning.
